Flying rodents, big babies, and royalty-in-waiting

It's time to update the wildlife in the household, assuming that I can remember WHAT we have and WHERE it is. (and as I just typed that, I looked down to see a wolf spider the size of a tarantula, missing 2 legs but still moving gamely towards my chair; pardon me for just a moment). Ahh.. I'm back. Nothing that a good broom couldn't handle (but really, I never knew that a 6-legged spider could jump so high or run so fast! I'm impressed). Back to our regularly scheduled programming:

The flying squirrel, Homer, is doing quite well. He has fur, bright eyes, a fluffy tail, and yet he still only drinks milk and wobbles when he walks. I'm beginning to suspect that his brain pan got a little rattled when the tree fell, and I may now be the guardian of a special-needs squirrel. Only time will tell.

And then, there's our big baby girl, Blackie Sue. She is about 50 lbs. now, and yet she still acts like the puppy that she is. Strange how behavior that was so cute when she weighed 15 lbs. is a bit over the top now. Still, she is a real sweetheart, and we wouldn't trade her for anything. Even if we CAN create a whole new dog every week just from the hair that falls from her body.

And finally, there's Hickory Nut, the Hickory horned devil caterpillar. Yes, he's my kind of pet; he crawled around the bugbox for approximately one day and then curled up and became a pupa. No food, no mess, no noise. He's a good boy, and in TWO YEARS, when he decides to emerge as a regal moth, we'll treat him like the royalty that he is. Adam will be in 5th grade, and I hope he still likes bugs by then.
That's it for now for the Creekside Wildlife Emporium and Petting Zoo; I'm off to find my can of Raid.

Pam,

Just came to visit. You are truly a gifted writer - seeing the transformation from the beginning of your "blog" to now. I LOVE the pictures you posted of all God's creatures. What beauty! Amazing how they magnify our Creator! And last but not least, I finally can "see" you and Adam!! What a blessing!! Hopefully I can figure out how to receive your blogs - if that can be done. I'll get Leah or Judah to help me.

Smiling because of you!!

Pamela

I'm thinking that Adam has a future as an entomologist, botanist, or zoologist. Maybe a cross of all three? Fun blog you have. :)
