It's time for another I Heart Faces contest, and this week's theme is near and dear to my heart: No Flash Allowed! I know the flash is sometimes a necessary evil, but it steals the heart and soul of most pictures, unless you're very skilled in using it. And when you're capturing the essence of a child, natural light is like air and water; a must-have. I took this picture a couple of weeks ago; this beautiful little friend is so photogenic that she really needs to be a model. I was using my Fuji (it'll be a while before I can make my Canon produce results that I'll truly be proud of). Afternoon sunlight at the ballfield washed over her sweet little face, and I had a ball taking pictures of her. Her dad is working overseas, and I considered it a special present to be able to send him some pictures of his princess. I used Picasa to even the skin tones and do a little cropping, and I love the end result. Defnitely a pretty, pretty princess!

I have a Canon too and need to use the flash on sunny days or my subjects have black faces. It's so hard for me to get any kind of good photo without a flash unless the sun is setting. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Anyway, your photos if lovely! I'm going to try to work without the flash for a while and see if I can improve. This week was hard for me because my flash is ALWAYS on the camera.
