And so....

And so.... I haven't been back here for ages. And so... I have no excuse. *sigh* But I HAD to document what happened tonight, so here I am.
My son's school has teacher appreciation days throughout the year. Educational games, gift cards, cards and stationary, flowers; we truly appreciate our teachers. And at the end of the year, the school has a "teacher appreciation luncheon". I am a volunteer for "Delightful Bakers"; we provide home-baked goodies for various activities throughout the year. The Valentine Banquet and the teacher appreciation luncheon are our biggies. The teacher appreciation luncheon is tomorrow, and I have been tapped to bring in a home-baked dessert. SO... I looked through my favorite cookbook and picked out two things; a German chocolate pecan coconut pie, and a dark chocolate cake with chocolate mousse buttercream frosting. I made the pie, and then started on the cake. I decided to do 3 8-inch layers instead of 2 10-inch layers; I just like a 3-layer cake best. I prepare the pans, make the batter, bake the cakes, and put them on the cooling racks. After they pull away from the sides of the pans, I take them out of the pans so they can finish cooling before I make the mousse buttercream. I then go downstairs to work on the computer; between preschool, Sunday school, VBS, Cub Scout camp, and my husband's business, there is ALWAYS something I can be doing on the computer. I come back upstairs a little later and bop into the kitchen. Where I find my d/s... with a layer of the cake, broken into pieces, and several of them have been stuffed into his mouth. He has had several good days in a row at school, and he apparently thought I was baking the cake as a reward. Did he ask me? No... he just assumed.. and we all know what that means! I wailed "my beautiful cake"... and then when I told him I was planning to make a pretty cake for his teachers, he crumbled. I think I finally convinced him that we all make mistakes and that the teachers would be fine with whatever I brought (but that, next time, he needs to ASK before he eats.....). Bottom line, I was able to finish the cake as a two layer cake with the fabulous icing thick on it. It all turned out fine, but I just wanted a record of the day, because it truly was priceless coming into the kitchen and seeing a layer of my cake in transition from the plate to Adam's mouth. God had a plan, because both the cake and the pie turned out nicely, and I won't be ashamed at all to take either of them in for the teachers.
