Fix-It #18 - Hands-On Photo Editing using MS Digital Image Suite

I don't always have time to play with the Fix It Friday crowd at I Heart Faces, but I couldn't resist the picture today; what a sad little tear-stained face! I looked at some of the wonderful edits by the contributors, and I looked at some of the links, and I realized that until I get Photoshop, I'll never be able to do straight edits that come even close. But, MS Digital Image Suite does have some fun filters that allow me to play with the picture, so I left traditional behind and went for different instead. First, I cropped and sharpened the picture to have a good master to work with:

Looks better already! Then I started playing with filters and frames:
Here's the watercolor filter (not so sure I like the frame now that I see it here; oh well):

Here's the sepia filter:

This is ink outline:

This one is called film grain:

And this is Bug Hunter's favorite, diffused glow:

The filters are fun and easy, and they do have some adjustments within each filter that can be made. Nothing as wonderful as PS actions, but still fun. And to think that I had this software for a couple of years and never used it for photo editing til the past few months.
Do go over to I Heart Faces to see how the experts do it; there are some very talented folks over there! If I ever get a computer that can handle Photoshop, IHF will be one of my main go-to spots for tutorials. I LOVE I Heart Faces!

Nice to know who loves editing as much as I do; in fact, I think I like that part of it better than taking the actual pictures.

And your edits are mah-velous, dahling! Really, really nice. I always enjoy seeing what creative ideas you come up with.

Hugs to you all!
Becky

Suh-weet!

I think the sepia one comes across as the most heartmelting... that little pout!!!

I'm with Rachel, I love the sepia one. I think I am really partial to sepia for some reason though. I really did like them all, just gravitated to the sepia.

Editing is so much fun. I really wish I had more time for it...

Nice...I have a program called Photo Explosion that does most of this and it is fun to play with. I also have Photoshop Elements that will do some really neat things but I have yet to sit and play with it. There is one on line called Picnik found at picnik.com that has some nice things also for editing. But to learn photoshop would be great.
