Compassion = Action

My heart is breaking over Haiti. The pictures, the reports, the entire coverage that shows chaos and devastating loss. Again. A country that is continually on its knees, at the mercy of nature. May the mercy of God's people overcome earthquakes and hurricanes. I'm looking for the best route to give, wanting to make sure that it is actually used to help the hurting NOW. I'll most likely go with Compassion International; they have the infrastructure in place to get what is needed over there quickly. And I find it more than coincidental that God directed me to my verses for the year, 1 John 3:18-19; I think I may update it to 1 John 3: 16-24-
16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for one another. 17 If any one of you has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in you? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. 19 This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: 20 If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24 Those who keep his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

Amen. May His Spirit move us past sympathy to compassion so that these precious people may feel His love.

I feel so lost with how to help, thanks for your link, some of the guys I know are being deployed there right now, they are rigging the packages with parachutes, that's my hubby's job, I am so glad so many people take it into their own hands to help.

Thank you for writing this beautiful post Pam. It hurts me so much to think about those hurting people. I have had tears in my eyes for three days. Kaish keeps telling me to stop crying, but it honestly hurts my heart to think of the pain and suffering there. Oh, so sad.

I have always liked compassion international and will be happy to make a donation there at your suggestion.

I love your heart. It is so beautiful. You teach me so much.
