I Heart Faces-Week 21 Pets (ANYTHING goes!)

In the immortal words of my friend, Sue G, when it comes to birthday pictures, I got nuthin'. And since that was the main theme of I Heart Faces this week, (and since you can't just "create" a birthday to take pictures of, and I REFUSE to go over the edge and make a pretend cake so I can get a good picture...), I thought I just might sit this week out. But then, I realized that it was also Pet Week again, and once again, "anything goes". Hey, my Bug Hunter has made a pet out of things you would NEVER imagine being a pet, from snakes to spiders to crawfish. But when he brought this whopper home in his backpack, well, he nearly sent the mom driving carpool that day off the road when he told her to look at what he'd found on the playground. Just in case you're interested, it's a Hickory Horned Devil, which eventually turns into a Regal Moth. About as big as a cigar, but far more interesting, at least in my book! A day after BH brought it home, it dropped that horned head (FREAKED me out) and pupated; it looks sort of "Darth Vaderish" to me. According to the info that we found on the Internet, it can take up to two years for the moth to emerge; since this was found in September of last year, we have a looooong way to go. For now, I'll just put this out there as possibly the coolest pet that BH has ever had; and since we only had to care for it for one day, it was definitely the easiest!

Now, you know the drill; head over to I Heart Faces to check out more entries in the Pets category, as well as Birthdays (THAT should be fun!).

OH MY GOODNESS! It's an absolutely awesome picture, but I am slightly freaked out. How have I lived my entire life never knowing these things existed? It's HUGE! Makes me wonder how big the moth is. I think I may be doing an internet search to find out. I'm glad we don't have those around here (I don't think) so at least I'll only be dealing with frogs and worms. YIKES!!!

Are you SERIOUS. I mean - what kind of cigar are you talking about? That thing is monstrous! More like one of those ginormous german sausage things that they give you a t-shirt if you can eat it all.

WOW, just WOW. Awesome and I bet no one else has one of those! :)

And you are TOO SWEET with the award. I will try my darndest to get to it quick. And I'm trying to visit all your other buddies because I know you've got some good ones.

Glad to see you back in bloggyville - even if you are smashingly busy! :)

Gosh, I can't remember the last time I pupated. Really. (Now I have to go look that word up and see what the heck it means!)

Oh my, is this what I have to look forward too with a boy. That might have freaked me out, if I say my little one pull it out of his back pack. I better toughen up in the next few years..

Great shot though...

That is SO cool! I have one boy who could care less about outside "stuff" and another that loves it all! I'm sure I'll get a few of "those" kind of pets, too! Fun!

My kids are in the habit of bringing home caterpillars as well. (I admit that I started it.) But thankfully, we've never met one quite that large.

After viewing the picture I couldn't wait to read and see what he made that out of, and almost fell off my chair when I realized that it was REAL. OH-MY-GOODNESS-GRACIOUS!!!! That thing is awesome. I can't wait to show my kids when they get home from school! Awesome photo too!!!!

First thing I thought of:
"Dear God, Thank you so much for my two wonderful boys but thank you even more for two wonderful boys that think bugs are cool from a distance but would never bring one home as a pet! Amen"

Oh my...not sure what else to say but I am doing the "ewww" dance!!!
