Still Looking for a CURE

CURE, the nonprofit group that raises money to fund research into cures for pediatric cancer, has a special fundraiser going on this month. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month, and every day this month, CURE is featuring one or two children who are either battling cancer, have been cured, or who died while battling the beast. The promotion is called "CURE'S Kids Conquer Cancer One Day at a Time", and the goal is to raise $1,000 per day for a total of $30,000 raised for pediatric cancer research. I'm happy to say that they blew past their goal in the first WEEK, but the fact is that childhood cancer research is woefully underfunded. A very, VERY tiny percentage of the money raised by American Cancer Society goes to fund pediatric research. And all of those children that are at the front of the group at Relay for Life? The ones who tug your heartstrings and your pursestrings? They're doing a great job pulling in donations... for breast cancer, prostate cancer, and lung cancer research. But for themselves? Not so much.
Today is our friend Tyler's day at CURE. I wish so badly that he was here to see it. I wish that he was a survivor, instead of simply a statistic. He left a large footprint on my heart, as well as Bug Hunter's, and he lived large in the small amount of time that he was alloted. But it should have been more. Please, if you can, donate to CURE, or to CureSearch, or to any of the other groups that fund research for pediatric cancers. Tyler taught us to never, ever give up; we owe it to him and ALL children to press on til the cure is found.
Tyler's story and donation page can be found here , along with the stories of over 30 other wonderful kids. Please help. Thanks!

Cancer is a wicked thing and even worse when it touches the life of a child. Bless you Pam for you insight and your work in this area.

I first heard of CURE through Coleman Scott's family. I am amazed at the statistics (and heartbroken). Thank you for providing the link here. And for showing your friend Tyler.

Dear Pam:

The poignancy of your message tugs at the heart. The urgency of your message tugs at the fiber of my being. Knowing that there is so little done in the area of pediatric cancer research...so little funding...so little awareness...so few medical breakthroughs...just makes my blood boil and my heart break.

These children are our future. And while so many are being denied the privilege of living theirs, we are also being denied the privilege of witnessing the great things they could do to make this world a better place.

Childhood cancer is an abomination. We have to open our eyes and see this, then come up with a plan and act toward a solution.

If we don't, then we become part of the problem.

I spent the morning at Children's Hospital - on the oncology wing - in honor of my Tyler's birthday....I'm telling, kids fighting cancer are amazing!! No doubt - your friend left a huge impact on your hearts!! I love that:)

Have a great weekend!

Well, I'm a total mess now. I didn't realize the childrens cancer research funding was so low. I'll have to work on that, thank you for raising awareness.
