The Polar Van Express rolled out last night bearing 3 excited passengers (well, one of them was actually the conductor, but he enjoyed the lights just as much as the other two). There was peppermint hot chocolate with marshmallows, and white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies with sprinkles. Bing crooned "White Christmas", and when we were finally done with him, Jim Brickman filled the van with soothing piano music. At one point, as we drove down a cul de sac road with a lot of woods, a big deer trotted across the road just in front of us. And the lights; oh, the lights! There were a lot of tastefully decorated homes, but we did encounter a few "Griswold" wanna-be's. There were two homes in an otherwise-tasteful subdivision that were across the street from each other, and it was painfully obvious that they were in a race to see who could "bling" up their house and yard the most. Honestly, I could just imagine the men trying to out-strategize each other. "If I wait and let him put his stuff up first, then I'll know what else I need to get!" (and yes, I am stereotyping by assuming that it's the guys who are at war, but I bet I'm right!). Here's a little slideshow of a few of the sights; there were some gorgeous displays. As BugHunter said when we returned to our abode with just a lighted wreath on the front door, "It looks pretty bleak around here!" *sigh* Yes, son, it does... but at least we have love....
