Comfort

What a great word; comfort. But it's a strange one, too; different endings change it completely. ComfortABLE--what do you think of when you hear that word? LazyBoy recliners, memory foam slippers, hot tea, a massage.. or maybe a nice bank account that provides a strss cushion. ComfortED-- how about that word? Makes me think of a hug... a pat on the back.. a kind look or word. But usually, if I need to be comfortED, I'm NOT comfortABLE. And when I chew on that for a little while, I finally realize that God doesn't really WANT me to be comfortABLE here on this earth. It's not my home, and yet, He wants His kingdom to be here, just as it is in Heaven. And THAT means I need to be His hands and feet and get to workin'! Which most definitely ISN'T comfortABLE. But, I can rest assured that when I'm tired, or hurting, or just plain discouraged, God WILL be my ComfortER, and I WILL be comfortED. And, in turn, that comfort can flow from me to others. And that? Is a comfortING thought, indeed.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 5 For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.

AWESOME!

Love it, love it, love it!

You are so right, we sometimes wonder why God lets bad things happen and why he allows unhappiness. HE is the great ComfortER, not the great ComfortableER (how's that for a word??) You cannot be comfortED if your are comfortABLE, so therefore, therein lies the need for a comfortER.

I love these simple ideas that pack such a wallop when they are thought about.

Thank you for the blessing of your words today.

Another brilliant post, Pam. You really contemplate every word you write and then execute it so wonderfully.

I thought about my own life and the circumstances within it, and I thought also about the word comfortable. I actually am comfortED by the word comfortABLE because to me it means that I am ABLE to find comfort in all experiences. Comfort is always there, always awaiting my attention to allow it in.

To me, being ABLE to find comfort in all things is the same as being able to find GOD in all things. Every situation, no matter how dire, how challenging, has God within it. And HE makes me ABLE to face it.

Thanks for making me think...for a change. : >)
