Today, I got to see three beautiful love letters. The first was from my Bug Hunter to me, for Mother's Day:
The second one came in the mail today. It's our first letter from the Compassion child that we sponsor. He even drew a picture, which totally won the Bug Hunter over (as if he wasn't already!). I can't remember if I mentioned our child here, but we decided to sponsor him back in March. We went to Compassion's website and pulled up all boys who had been born in the same month and year as the Bug Hunter. And then, I let HIM choose who he'll grow up with. He honed right in on this sweet boy, who lives in Kenya and is an AIDS orphan. We're looking forward to helping him grow up and live out his dreams, which apparently include becoming a pilot. The sky's the limit!
Of course, as soon as the Bug Hunter read his friend's letter and saw his picture, BH had to counter with a picture of his own. On the other side of the letter it lists out some of our friend's favorite things, and one of them is "football". When I explained that football in Kenya is called soccer here, Bug Hunter lit up. He and his friends play soccer on the playground just about every day, and he loves it, too. So, here's what he drew:
(It makes me think of a picture I drew of my dad when I was about the same age as BH is now. I wrote "I love you Dad!" at the bottom and wrote his name across the top. Except that his name was Frank, and I wrote "Farnk". Seems as if BH has inherited my mad spelling skilz.)
And then, there's the greatest love story of all, documented by Paul in Romans 8:31-39:
31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all--how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
It just doesn't get any better than that. To all of my mom friends, Happy Mother's Day (in case I don't do a Mother's Day post!) It's all about love....

Happy Mother's Day, Pam!
Great post! I just got a letter from my Compassion child in Ecuador. It is always thrilling when a letter comes in the mail. Sounds like your son was a sweetheart for Mother's Day. Glad your horns didn't have to show up on Mother's Day like mine did. :)
This is such a sweet sweet post - I love it! And thanks so much for your kind words on my blog - what an encouragement that was for me today! :-)
