True Story Tuesday

It's time again for True Story Tuesday, where we throw ourselves under the bus in an attempt to top one another with the funniest faux pas or "Can you believe I DID that?" story. And while I might someday make runner-up, I will NEVER win, because somehow Rachel, who mothered this blog circus, manages to make me practically have to change my (big girl) panties whenever I read her story. The friends who link up are pretty darn funny, too, so once you're done here, please head over to Rachel and friends and get some REAL laughs!
This story isn't so much a blooper as a "yeah, I really did do this, because I love my kid" story. We all have 'em, whether you're a sports mom, or a cheerleading mom, or WHATEVER kind of mom you may be. I'm a Cub Scout mom and den leader to boot. To provide proof that I really AM a scout leader and not just trying to hijack good will off the title, here's a picture of me and Bug Hunter, both in our offical scouting regalia:

(Disclaimer: I provided above picture so that I would not in any way feel compelled to provide a picture of the actual activity which is yet to be described).

So, I have one of the den meetings here, at my very house, each month. And I am responsible for coming up with the content of said meeting, which usually consists of activities that are required or suggested for Bear scouts in the official Cub Scout Bear handbook. We are almost at the end of the scouting year, and our boys have made rank. We're mostly doing "fun" stuff now, and I had planned for us to go on a "nature hike" across the creek and up in the woods. Except that the weatherman must have heard me whisper that thought, so he poured several straight days of rain all over the place, forcing me to plan INDOOR activities for our 8 somewhat energetic boys. I found $1 magic kits at Michaels, so half the meeting was good, right there. And I maybe could have stretched that out to the whole thing, but I figured we could work in another elective or two. Out of all of the things from which I could choose, I chose "Cub Scout Band": make an instrument (simple tambourine), and play 2 songs on it. I went to an official Cub Scout site that had a list of official Cub Scout songs, and I chose one called "Day Old Bread", sung to the tune of "Day-O". And then, my eyes beheld the wonder of "The Llama Song", and it was over. Picture two grown women, standing in front of a group of 9 year old boys and their dads (WHY are we the den leaders? WHY??? Doesn't it seem more logical for the dads to lead a group of all boys? They'll coach.. why won't they be a den leader?), and urging the boys to bang their little purple oatmeal-top, jingle-bell lined tambourines while they sing (feel free to join in at ANY time....)
to the tune of the "Nah Nah Hey Hey" song:
Llama, llama.. llama llama.. I ride a... ride a llama. (repeat) And then 2 verses to the tune of "We Will Rock You", and then the Llama chorus. It was all good.. until I noticed that one of the dads had his cell phone out and was videoing us. I "might" have threatened his very manhood, should the video show up on Facebook. There is no proof of that, so I'll just chunk it into the "Not ME!" bin. I forgot, however, to include YouTube, so if by chance you should stumble across a video of two middle-aged women singing "The Llama Song" accompanied by a frenzied tambourine band, I'd surely appreciate it if you'd let me know.

I'm giggling madly! That was priceless my friend. Oh, the lengths we'll go to amuse and educate our kids.

Though I'm with ya... dads could definitely pull den duty.

Did the boys have a blast? I'm guessing so :)

And you posted that sweet and pretty picture at the beginning so you wouldn't have to post another? So... is there a PICTURE of the said adventure??? :)
